The 1963 Commer Highwayman is one of the most distinctive British vans ever built — a bubble-nosed icon with character that stops people in their tracks. Ours has been stripped back, lovingly restored, and fitted out as a fully operational mobile café.

We pull proper espresso from a commercial machine, serve hot pies and sausage rolls, and bring the whole lot to your school gate, worksite, market, or event across the Northern Beaches and beyond.

Great coffee. Great food. A van people genuinely want a photo with.

How It Started

Built by mates,
for old mates.

When Covid hit in 2020, a crew of Northern Beaches mates found themselves locked down and separated. So they did what Australians do — they found a project.

They tracked down a 1963 Commer Highwayman, stripped it back to bare metal, and spent months fitting it out as a fully operational mobile café. The build became the catch-up. The van became the excuse to keep showing up for each other.

The name was never in question. Old Mates Coffee.
